About eco

🔌 About eco

eco is a Spigot development library (a standalone Minecraft plugin) designed to simplify plugin development and provide reusable engine features for other plugins. It exposes command and configuration APIs, persistent storage adapters, GUI and custom item systems, and numerous integrations so plugin authors can reuse common functionality rather than reimplement it.

🎯 Purpose

eco exists to centralize common developer-facing systems needed by modern plugins: command parsing, color and messaging formats, configuration formats, persistent data access, GUI components, item handling, and integrations with other server-side systems. It is intended for plugin authors who want to build features quickly on top of a maintained, shared framework.

⚙️ Features

  • Modern command API and parsing
  • Native color parsing with hex / RGB / MiniMessage support
  • Config system supporting YAML, JSON and TOML
  • Persistent data storage API with YAML, MySQL, and MongoDB backends
  • GUI API and prebuilt components
  • Custom item and ultra-fast ItemStack handling
  • Packet item display and lightweight packet event loop
  • Entity AI API with near-1:1 NMS mappings
  • Placeholder API and native integrations (30+ integrations listed by the project)
  • Price/economy abstraction (price system supporting economy plugins, XP, items)
  • Native bStats support and plugin update checking
  • Extension system (plugins for plugins) and dependency-injection tooling for developers

🧩 Who It Is For

  • Plugin developers building Spigot/Paper-compatible plugins who want a reusable framework
  • Server owners running plugins that depend on eco (eco must be installed as a dependency)
  • Projects that require custom items, GUIs, or unified persistence and command tooling

🏗️ Example Use Cases

  • A developer implements a custom item pack that uses eco's item lookup and GUI APIs.
  • A plugin uses eco's storage API to support both local YAML and a remote MongoDB backend without duplicating code.
  • Multiple small plugins share eco for consistent command handling and color parsing.

⚙️ Installation

📥 Setup

  • Install eco as a plugin on any server that requires it by placing the JAR in the server plugins/ folder and restarting the server.
  • If another plugin depends on eco, declare it in that plugin's plugin.yml under depend: with - eco so the server loads eco first.

📦 Dependency (for plugin developers)

  • The project publishes a Maven repository and Gradle coordinates for compile-only usage. The project offers a published artifact (for example with group com.willfp and version tags) so developers add eco as a provided dependency during build.

🧠 Technical Notes

  • Supported server software: official project indicates support for Spigot, Paper, Purpur, and Folia.
  • Supported Minecraft versions: the project states support starting at 1.21.4 and later builds target modern 1.21.x series.
  • Storage backends: YAML, MySQL, and MongoDB adapters are provided by the framework.
  • Licensing: eco is released under the MIT license.

🤝 When This Plugin Is Useful

If you are developing multiple features or plugins that share common needs (commands, config formats, GUI components, storage, custom items), eco reduces duplicated work by providing a maintained framework and integrations that other plugins can depend on.
