🔌 About MiniMOTD

MiniMOTD is a Minecraft server and proxy plugin to set the server list MOTD using MiniMessage formatting. It exposes RGB hex colors and gradients in the server list, supports randomized MOTDs and icons, and provides several display options (fake player counts, "just X more" max player messages, paired icons per MOTD, and color downsampling for older clients).

🎯 Purpose

MiniMOTD solves the problem of limited formatting in the server list by allowing modern color formats (RGB hex, gradients) and flexible MOTD configuration for owners who want richer, dynamic server list presentation across supported server and proxy platforms.

⚙️ Features

  • MiniMessage-based formatting (supports RGB hex and gradients).
  • Automatic downsampling of RGB colors for older clients.
  • Randomized MOTDs and randomized server icons.
  • Pair specific server icons with specific MOTD texts.
  • Fake player counts and adjustable "just X more" max player messaging.
  • Separate distribution builds for different server/proxy platforms.

🧩 Who It Is For

  • Server owners and administrators who want advanced, colored, or animated-looking server list MOTDs.
  • Networks using a proxy (Velocity/Waterfall/Bungee) or single-server setups (Paper/Spigot) that need consistent MOTD behavior across clients.
  • Operators who want per-MOTD icon control and randomized presentation.

🏗️ Example Use Cases

  • Show an RGB gradient MOTD visible to 1.16+ clients while gracefully falling back for older clients.
  • Rotate a set of MOTD messages and server icons each server list ping.
  • Present a higher-looking player count with controlled "fake player" display.

⚙️ Installation

📥 Setup

  • Download the appropriate .jar distribution for your platform and place it in your server's plugins/ (or mods/ for Fabric where applicable) directory.
  • Restart the server to generate configuration files and folders.
  • Place 64×64 PNG icons into the plugin's icons folder to use randomized or paired server icons.

📦 Dependencies

  • Fabric builds require the Fabric API when running on Fabric.

🧠 Technical Notes

  • MiniMOTD uses MiniMessage for parsing formatted text and handles color downsampling for old clients.
  • Official releases provide separate jars per platform (examples: Bukkit-compatible -bukkit distribution for many Spigot/Paper versions, a -paper build for Paper >= 1.21.8, and proxy builds for Waterfall/Bungee; Fabric and other platform-specific distributions are also published).
  • License: MIT.

🤝 When This Plugin Is Useful

If you need modern color formatting (RGB/gradients), randomized MOTDs/icons, or flexible server-list presentation across both single servers and proxy networks, MiniMOTD provides a focused, configurable solution without broader feature overhead.
