🔌 About SafariNet

SafariNet is a Minecraft plugin for capturing and releasing mobs. It stores full entity data (NBT) so captured mobs retain saddles, custom names, health, villager trades, chest contents for pack animals, armor, and other data when transported and respawned.

🎯 Purpose

The plugin solves the problem of moving or saving mobs across worlds or dimensions while keeping their exact state. It's aimed at server administrators who want players to transport companions, preserve custom mobs, or provide spawnable mobs without client mods.

⚙️ Features

  • Catch and release virtually every mob using a SafariNet item.
  • Stores full entity NBT (saddles, horse variants, mule/chest contents, villager trades, health, armor, custom names, potion effects, etc.).
  • Single-use and reusable SafariNet item types.
  • Configurable catch chances and behavior per mob.
  • Customizable SafariNet item appearance and lore (including model data support).
  • Use SafariNets in dispensers for automated spawning.
  • Integrations with common protection and plugin ecosystems (see Integration list).
  • Optional per-mob permissions to restrict catching/releasing specific mobs.

🧩 Who It Is For

  • Survival and SMP servers that want players to move pets and mobs safely.
  • RPG and adventure servers that use custom mobs and want to preserve NBT.
  • Administrators who need a way to export/import or move mobs across worlds.

🏗️ Example Use Cases

  • Players capture a tamed horse with its saddle and inventory, transport it to another world, and release it with all data intact.
  • An admin pre-populates a spawn chest by capturing specific villagers (including trades) and later releasing them for an event.
  • Using dispensers to spawn previously captured mobs as part of a minigame or mob-event.

📥 Setup

  • Download the plugin JAR from the plugin's Spigot resource page.
  • Place the JAR into your server plugins/ directory (Spigot/Paper-compatible server).
  • Restart the server and check console logs to confirm the plugin loaded successfully.

📦 Dependencies / Integrations

The plugin lists optional integrations with a number of protection and extension plugins (these are integrations, not strictly required dependencies):

  • WorldGuard
  • GriefPrevention
  • GriefDefender
  • PlotSquared
  • Towny
  • BentoBox
  • Residence (and ResidenceNS)

Enable or configure specific integrations in the plugin configuration if you use those systems.

🧾 Configuration

The plugin creates a configuration file with options such as blacklist entries, whether tamed mobs can be caught, per-mob permissions, sound settings, recipes for single-use and reusable nets, and catch chance settings per mob. Recipes, item display names, and lore are configurable. The config also supports enabling/disabling crafting permissions and customizing behavior on capture/fail.

🧠 Technical Notes

  • SafariNet stores and serializes entity NBT to preserve complete mob state when captured.
  • The plugin supports server-side capture and release without client mods.
  • It offers optional inventory/egg sync approaches for proxy networks if an inventory sync solution is present.
  • The plugin historically targets Spigot/Paper server environments and includes support notes for a wide range of Minecraft versions.

🤝 When This Plugin Is Useful

If you need to move or save complete mob state between locations or across worlds (including saddles, inventories, custom names, and villager trades), SafariNet provides a server-side solution that preserves entity data and offers configurable permissions and integrations for production servers.
